The Town of Granite Falls is seeking a community-oriented professional with strong initiative and sound judgement to serve as a Police Officer. Granite Falls is in the western piedmont area of Western North Carolina and is part of the Hickory Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), the sixth largest MSA in the state. The Town has a council-manager form of government, consisting of a mayor and six councilmembers, each elected on a non-partisan basis to serve staggered four-year-terms. The Town provides a full range of municipal services with a current budget over 19 million.
The Police Officer performs a full range of general law enforcement duties on an assigned shift in the patrol division including conducting routine patrols, preliminary investigations, traffic control duties, responding to calls for assistance, and performing other related duties as required. Work involves frequent public contact which requires tact, firmness, and decisiveness. Work is performed in accordance with departmental policy, State, and Federal laws, supplemented with specific directions from superior officers. The position is considered a safety sensitive role. Duties may expose the employee to human body fluids and subjects the work to OSHA bloodborne pathogen rules and regulations and may require one to work in close quarters. Work is performed under the supervision of the Police Lieutenant and is evaluated through observation, review of reports, and discussion of case management.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Graduation from high school or possession of GED.
- Possession of a valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License.
- Completion of the minimum requirements established by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission for certified law enforcement officers.
- Possession of Basic Law Enforcement Certification.
Compensation and Benefits:
The Town of Granite Falls offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. The starting pay for this position is $49.753.77, which includes a base salary of $47.558.53 and holiday pay totaling $2,195.42. The Town provides a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, long term disability, and life insurance; Local Government Employees Retirement System (LGERS) contribution and Five Percent 401(k) employer contribution; annual vacation, sick leave, and paid holidays. Additional benefits include bereavement leave, education reimbursement, and longevity pay.
